Description
Blue Cypress (Callitris intratropica): Also known as Cypress Pine, its origin is from the heartwood of the trees growing in Australia. However, the plant material is exported to Israel and then distilled.
Blue Cypress is blue colored which indicates that it contains the sesquiterpene azulene. Blue essential oils containing azulene have anti-inflammatory properties by both inhalation and topical application. This category would contain such single essential oils as German/Blue Chamomile, Blue Yarrow and true Blue Moroccan Tansy.
Due to the high level of sesquiterpenes, Blue Cypress may help oxygenate cells, thus, helping to allow the brain and thoughts to be clear.
In addition to being used for inflammation, Blue Cypress has been traditionally used for many types of first aid, arthritis, circulation and perfumery. It’s color is a viscous blue and its aroma is woody, camphor and cypress-like allowing one to feel more grounded.
If a blue colored essential oil has turned brown or black, it indicates oxidation has occurred and its lifespan is past safe use and there are free radicals existing. Therefore, the formerly blue oil which is then brown/black should NOT be used for therapy.
Emotional Influence: Grounding, clear thinking, and by helping to reduce inflammation physically, it may help to release irritation and anger.
